The fertile valley of Ceres, in the Koue Bokkeveld and the open savannah of the Tanqua Karoo were originally inhabited by the Khoi and San, over nine thousand years ago. The San rock paintings caves are also some of the best-kept sites in the Karoo. Wethu, a local based information center in the nearby Koue Bokkeveld, fifty kilometers from the town of Ceres, will take holiday makers and overseas tourists on scenic hiking trails to see some of these cave paintings.
